Annual Financial Performance Survey

Find out how you stack up….   Analyzing your company’s performance relative to industry standards is one of the best ways to identify opportunities for improvement. That’s why each year, IMDA conducts a confidential Financial Performance and Compensation Survey among its members. The results are compiled and provided free of charge to all members participating in the survey. The surveys are collected and tabulated by an outside firm. At no times does any IMDA member or association employee see any member’s survey or financial information.

As an IMDA member, you will be able to compare your company’s performance with that of other IMDA members in some key categories, including:

• Gross margin
• Net income
• Operating expenses
• Inventory management.
• Efficiency in the collection of accounts receivable
• Sales staff compensation
• Salary information for CEO’s, general managers and sales managers
• Employee benefit plans

Several years ago, the IRS came to audit my company. One of the things they questioned was my income. It’s to the government’s advantage to shift income away from salary and move it to a higher taxed category. Luckily, I had saved the annual IMDA financial surveys since I joined the organization in 1986. My CPA took those surveys and made a case to the IRS that the amount of money I was taking out of the business was not excessive. It really carried some weight, and the IRS agreed. That financial survey saved me close to a quarter of a million dollars!
